What is Box Positive?
Box Positive is a therapeutic intervention designed and led by Charles Delve. Charles is an Occupational Therapist, ABA boxing coach, former British amateur boxing champion and the first UK qualified ‘Counterpunch Parkinson’s’ coach. The aim for Box Positive is to offer a service for people that have been directly affected by Parkinson’s disease and other neurological and mental health conditions.
What to Expect?
Group classes currently take place on a weekly basis at Droitwich Amateur boxing club for people with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s. Classes are informed by the latest research and strive to positively combat Parkinson’s symptoms. Following diagnosis people are told to “stay active” however it is difficult to know exactly what to do. At Box Positive each exercise or activity is clinically reasoned to target various motor and non-motor symptoms. As an Occupational Therapist Charles aims to maximise a person's ability to carry out everyday tasks independently. Exercises are graded to the person’s ability and can be completed from seated or standing. Sessions are goal directed and performance is measured so that people can monitor their own progress each week. The classes are both physically and cognitively challenging, but laughter and fun is key! Charles also offers 1-1 treatment sessions.
